About Aged Care Hospital Beds

When it comes to aged care beds, whether they’re in an aged-care facility like a nursing home or in your own home, quality is paramount. Mac’s Metalcraft knows the utmost importance of safety, strength and durability of aged care beds. It goes without saying that such beds have to be safe for patients, but they also must address occupational health and safety issues for medical staff or at-home carers. They must be able to withstand the day to day rigours of aged care use, and be built to last.

Our low height electric aged care beds, the Mac-1, features electric Hi-Lo, electric backrest, toe brake total lock castors, drop in headboard, and powder-coated surfaces for infection control and easy cleaning. It rises straight, so there’s no damage to walls from horizontal lifting.

Our Mac-2 floor beds, as its name implies, has the great advantage of being able to be lowered to an ultra low height of 11cm. This aged care bed is a very practical alternative to beds with safety side rails, which are increasingly being discouraged as an aged care alternative. Using the Mac-2 aged care beds means your patient faces a much lower risk of injury due to falling from bed.

Another advantage of the Mac-2 aged care beds, and something that no other floor level bed can offer, is an auto-retractive backrest.

As the backrest is raised from the horizontal to the vertical, the lower edge of the panel moves away from the occupant towards the head of the bed. This acts to reduce pressure on the lumbar region while raising the backrest and also reduces mattress shear.  A secondary advantage is that It provides more leg room when the occupant is sitting up, which is more accommodating for taller persons.
